Building a Healing Community

We believe in the idea that people can recover from mental illness when they play an active and empowered role in their journey. Through our services and practical support, we hope to foster personal enrichment and create opportunities to engage in a wider community.

CMHA branches in your community provide direct services to people with mental illness such as housing, employment services, recreation and leisure programs, support groups, educational presentations, crisis lines and other supportive services. Visit our Branches page to find a branch near you.

As a provincial office, CMHA BC Division provides services that serve all British Columbians. For example, we support people living with mental illness in their pursuit of employment and higher learning through services such as the Lorne Fraser Education Fund which provides $700 educational bursaries to qualified applicants with mental illness from across BC, and our Employment Services Database, a searchable inventory of agencies and services that can help a person recovering from mental illness find and keep employment.

Mental Health Works offers award-winning workshops designed to help managers learn more about mental illness in the workplace and some helpful strategies to support employees.

Since the early 1990s, CMHA BC has operated the BC Mental Health Information Line, providing information, community referrals and support to more than 10,000 callers each year. As of April 2009, this service is provided by the Distress Line Network.

The Bounce Back: Reclaim Your Health project offers help to people struggling with low mood, anxiety or stress. Through DVDs, workbooks and telephone coaching, Bounce Back helps build useful skills for managing mood and getting more out of life. This project is led by CMHA BC Division and funded by the BC Ministry of Health.
